Spin twins hasten win
By Steve Lyall
From 92-5 to 95 all out (not us I hasten to add!)
Another excellent performance and 30 points gathered at a lovely ground.
Good toss to win on a hot day - the openers, plus Charles, all got in and played some nice shots - the innings of the day came from Krunal who again rescued us from 68-5, this time in the company of Bobbie, who played his best and most mature innings yet for a TMCC senior side. Krunal's 51 featured 6 x 4 and 2 x 6, one of which had the tennis players conveniently sited at cow corner running for cover ..... Bobbie (22) and Smit (10) helped us up to 162 although two run outs did not help us maximise our potential.
From ball 1 the new nut was swinging considerably for Steve and while Smit bowled 5 quick overs the opening pair only managed one breakthrough, a full inswinger from SL taking the left-handed opener's middle pole. But the trend that was to emerge, of all his bowling changes having an immediate effect, Neil struck in his first over, pinning the other opener in front LB.
Charles, whose all-round game looks in great shape, showed the value of a left-arm seam option by swinging it in, then running it across the right-handers, and getting two nicks to Ahsan - Neil then produced a lovely off-cutter, defying the slope and wind, and taking the top of off in classical style.
Despite great work from the seamers in bringing Datch to 92-5 Neil played his trump cards in Nikeal and Krunal, and the rest, as they say, is history. Nikeal, first over, LB with an arm ball - Krunal, first over, C&B the skipper who had looked dangerous - then a veritable house of cards saw the collapse to 95 all out with the obligatory run out thrown in for good measure. Now that's what I call a collapse! Nikeal 2-1-3-2, Krunal 1.5-0-1-2 the numbers ... we march on in a very open division looking forward to the return legs.
